Scratch & Gouge Repair

Scratches and gouges are caused by everyday activities like walking with shoes on, moving furniture across the house, and active pets. These types of damages are also commonly caused by remodeling efforts, even when remodeling contractors operate very carefully in your home, it is common for hardwood floors to be scratched and dented when there is construction efforts happening.  With time, damaged areas of your flooring can worsen, which can make the repairs more challenging in the future.

Our team starts out by carefully assessing the extent of the damage, and then we can determine the most suitable approach. Depending on the severity of the scratches and gouges, we may employ a wood filler to seamlessly blend them in or we may need to sand and refinish the affected area(s).  In more severe cases, where the damage is extensive, we may need to replace the damaged boards entirely with the same species of wood and grade as the original floor.

Water Damage Repair

Water damage to hardwood floors is an urgent issue.  Timely action is necessary to avoid further damage and the growth of mold and bacteria.  When left unrepaired, water damage can result in warping, rot, buckling, and the need to replace the floors entirely.

When we assess water damage we consider the source of the water damage, the amount of water damage, and the amount of time that the floors have been saturated.

Common sources of water damage are:

  • Clean water - this is the least dangerous because the water does not have harmful bacteria.  Common examples include overflowing bathtubs and sinks.
  • Grey water - this is essentially dirty water and most commonly comes from washing machines and dishwashers.  Grey water contains contaminants like bleach and cleaning solutions.
  • Black water - this is the most dangerous type of water damage as it contains contaminated sewage. The most common example is an overflowed toilet.  Black water contains harmful bacteria and needs to be resolved urgently.
  • Salt water - this is not as dangerous as grey and black water, but can damage the finish on your hardwood floors if left to sit.  The most common cause of saltwater damage is from a fish tank.

Each water damage situation is unique and may require a different solution.  Our goal is to safely restore your flooring to its original condition (or better!).   If you suspect water damage, time is of the essence, call in the professionals.

Cupping & Crowing Repair

Moisture imbalances in hardwood floors can lead to two common problems: cupping and crowning.  Cupping occurs when the edges of the boards are higher than the center while crowning happens when the center of the board is higher than the edges. Not only do these issues affect the visual appeal of your floors, but they may also indicate underlying flooring issues that require prompt attention.

Our team will identify the root cause of these problems and determine the most effective course of action for restoration.  By utilizing tools such as moisture meters, we can accurately assess the moisture levels within the wood.  Based on the extent of the damage, we will then employ appropriate solutions, which may include replacing damaged boards or performing a comprehensive sanding and refurbishment of the area or the entire floor. Our goal is to restore your hardwood floors to their original condition, ensuring they not only look fantastic but also perform at their best.

Buckling & Warping Repair

Real hardwood floors can unfortunately buckle and warp.  Buckling manifests when the boards detach from the subfloor, whereas warping entails twisting or curving of the boards. Often, these issues arise due to imbalances in moisture content within the wood or subfloor, causing the wood to swell.   Water damage, changes in temperature, consistent water exposure, and moisture accumulation in concrete subfloors are all common causes of buckling and warping.

We will diagnose the cause of buckling or warping and provide you with solutions.  In any scenario, the source of the problem needs to be resolved first.   Then, depending on the situation, we may opt to replace the affected boards or areas, or we may recommend a comprehensive sanding and refinishing of the entire floor.
